Summer-end tunes

Mrozu, Natalia Przybysz, Zalewski, Vito Bambino, Nosowska and the premiere Babie Lato project hosted by Natalia Kukulska are just a few good reasons to spend the first weekend of September in Citadel Park. For many buffs of pop and general alternative music, the Poznań edition of the two-day Summer Sounds 2023 festival may be the best party in town with which to close the holiday season.

18 festival days spanning 9 cities and featuring 30 individual performers and bands in over 100 concerts leave little doubt that this year's fourth edition of the Santander Summer Sounds holiday concert tour will pack quite a punch. Especially if your soul is attuned to their hits and to what is very valuable music much of the time. Although predominantly rooted in pop, most of the music emanates diverse styles often associated with the alternative scene.

Following the example of the Męskie Granie (Men Playing) event, each city's segment of the festival programme offers a unique flair. What does the line-up hold for Poznań? It boasts not only Mrozu, who stands as this year's winner of many Fryderyk awards, but also the equally celebrated Zalewski, expected to deliver his Zalewski Sings Niemen's Songs programme. Natalia Przybysz will grace the stage with interpretations of Kora's work from her Zaczynam się od miłości album. Additionally, Vito Bambino and Nosowska, whose albums Pracownia and Degrengolada are acclaimed as some of the finest Polish releases in the first half of this year, contribute to the line-up. The roster is further enhanced by The Dumplings, Kacperczyk, WaluśKraksaKryzys, Natalia Szroeder, Paula Roma, along with appearances from the Ars Latrans Orchestra, Szczyl, Faustyna Maciejczuk and Daria from Silesia. In essence, the festival promises a weekend of highly satisfying musical delights.

And yet, that is not all as Summer Sounds also encompasses a special intergenerational project titled Babie Lato, in which Natalia Kukulska, the musical ambassador of the project, has extended invitations to Bovska, Margaret, Zalia and Mery Spolsky. The outcome? It is best savoured live. Expect an abundant dose of funk, soul, and club beats, seamlessly blending modern sound with the unique style of the "90s. So, see you at the Citadel where we'll bid our melodious farewell to the holiday season!
