Exhibition: Light On The Castle. Photography by Roman Stefan Ulatowski
An artist photographer who immortalized pre-war Poznań. Roman Stefan Ulatowski (1881-1959) self-published 24 portfolios of photographs of the most important monuments and sites in Poznań and Greater Poland. The portfolio containing photographs of the Imperial Castle dates from 1929. Although the photographs were used as postcards, they were more than just commercial landscapes. Ulatowski skillfully captured detail, the play of light, and the atmosphere of a place. He was an enemy of retouching, patiently waiting for the right light, angle, and timing. It is thanks to him that we today see the Castle in its original form before its reconstruction during World War II. The largest collection of Ulatowski's scanned negatives is presented by Cyryl - the Virtual Museum of Poznań History.
