Looking up close

It is imperative that you visit the new temporary venue of the Arsenał Municipal Gallery on ul. Szyperska, which - until 16 January - will be holding two exhibitions of works by two truly fascinating artists: Patryk Różycki (I Am Afraid It Will Be Too Late One Day) and Bartek Arobal Kociemba (Whole Burnt Flowers).

Both of these mavericks address sexuality, gender, corporeality and their socio-political contexts. Despite their very different artistic sensitivities, they share a concern with the toxicity of traditional masculinity and established social roles. Each of them is uninhibited and sensual in his own way. Their art will ushers you into their personal worlds in which to make yourself at home. Through the triad of fire, body and flowers, Kociemba opens up senses and invites viewers to watch a ritual shamanic dance. Meanwhile Różycki sets out to free the audience from the oppressive perception of their own sexuality. What better treat can you get on a gloomy cold winter day than the two narratives offered by these Arsenał Municipal Gallery exhibitions. I suggest you delve right into these microworlds and turn on your sensory perception. Bartek Arobal Kociemba had this to say to prospective visitors: "I do not want my works to be viewed from afar: you and your sensations are the main heroes of the show - use everything else as a backdrop". Don't hesitate then and come over for your benefit and enjoyment!
