"I'm very happy to still be able to do this and to enjoy live performances. Our concerts continue to attract crowds and my band and I can make a living from it. I see it as a blessing. (...) I started this at fourteen and I still play music. This makes me very happy," said Ray Wilson a few years ago. Fate has indeed been generous to him, although he did work hard to succeed.
He started out as a teenager while living in southern Scotland, pursuing a dream to make it big on the rock scene. He cut his teeth in numerous amateur bands before founding Guaranteed Pure with his brother in the early 1990s. His big break came with his own band Stiltskin, with which he toured and recorded in the mid-1990s. He is best known for his work with the legendary Genesis between 1996 and 1999.
He took over as the band's frontman replacing Phil Collins (who himself had succeeded Peter Gabriel). During his time with Genesis, Wilson recorded Calling All Stations, an album featuring the unforgettable hit Congo, before embarking on an extensive tour. After leaving Genesis, he launched the band Cut, then pursued a solo career, and ultimately rejoined Stiltskin. Along the way, he toured with Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries and Roger Hodgson of Supertramp. He later collaborated with RPWL and Steve Hackett. Wilson's own projects, including a fusion of Genesis material with classical music, have earned him widespread recognition.
Having lived in Poznań for over a decade, Wilson has become a familiar face on the local concert scene. The forthcoming tour promises not just Genesis's greatest hits but also a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Stiltskin's cult album The Mind's Eye (1994). This debut album garnered numerous awards, its single Inside topping charts in many countries, including the UK. According to the announcement, the line-up at AMU Auditorium will feature Ray Wilson - vocals, guitar; Ali Ferguson - guitar, vocals; Michał "Kool" Łyczek - piano, keyboards; Marcin Kajper - bass, saxophone, flute, clarinet; Mario Koszel - drums, percussion; and Alicja Chrząszcz - violin.
