Let the Organ Resound

Fortunately, at least once a year comes the glorious reminder about a unique treasure of Poznań: a Ladegast organ housed in the Parish (Fara) church. The summertime Old Town Organ Concert series organised by the Society of the Friends of the Poznań Fara, is a truly special event.

This year's series kicks off on 3 July with Krzysztof Lukas, professor at the Katowice Academy of Music, where he heads the organ department. On 10 July, the spotlight falls on Domenico Tagliente, well-known for his live organ improvisations to silent films such as "The Phantom of the Opera" by Rupert Julian. He also blends organ and live electronics, improvising at contemporary music festivals. Then on 17 July, it is the turn of Ewelina Bachul whose interests lean heavily into a Romantic and contemporary organ repertoire. One week later, on 24 July, we will hear from Wiktor Brzuchacz (organ) and Róża Lorenc (violin), one of Poland's most active performance duos. Their concerts range from solo pieces to chamber arrangements, including original takes on works for violin and organ. Rounding off the month on 31 July is Witold Zalewski, known for playing the organ during liturgies celebrated by Pope John Paul II during his pilgrimages.

The first concert in August will feature Szymon Jakubowski (7 August), a pianist, organist and improviser. For many years, he has been actively engaged in both concert performance and teaching, with musical improvisation playing a significant role in his work. A week later, on 14 August, expect to see Robert Napieralski, an organist at Poznań's parish basilica, where he is also responsible for the care of the historic Friedrich Ladegast organ. On the third Thursday on 21 August, it is time for Jakub Moneta, winner of both national and international organ competitions, who has made history as the first Polish organist ever to reach the podium at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig. The month will conclude with a performance by Agnieszka Radwan-Stefańska and Marek Stefański on 28 August. She works at the Academy of Music in Kraków, where she leads both artistic and academic projects. He - an organ virtuoso and full professor of musical arts - is among the most artistically active Polish organists, both at home and internationally.

These organ concerts will fill the Poznań Fara every Thursday at 7:30pm, and admission is free.
