The Exploited are pioneers of the second wave of British punk. Formed in 1979 in Edinburgh by former soldier Wattie Buchan, the group gained international fame and earned the title of a classic band thanks to their aggressive style and uncompromising lyrics. Their debut album Punks Not Dead has become a punk rock landmark. In the early years, the band embraced oi! and street punk, later evolving their style to blend classic punk rock with hardcore.
The band's position in the genre was solidified by subsequent albums, such as Troops of Tomorrow, Let's Start a War, and Horror Epics, which became guiding lights for future generations of punk performers. Later albums, such as Massacre and Beat the Bastards, showed the band's shift towards combining punk rock with heavy metal influences. Although their most recent studio album, Fuck the System, was released over 20 years ago, it is clear that "The Exploited still have a lot to offer to their fans," especially considering that "their concerts are brimming with vitality and memorable emotions, and their music remains relevant and inspiring." The band has been at it for more than four decades, with lead vocalist Wattie Buchan continuing to set the tone.
