Good friends

"Bons Amigos" is the title of a collaborative album by Dorota Miśkiewicz and Brazilian artist Toninho Horta. Before the album hits store shelves, the material will surface in concert. The artists are set to appear in Poznań's Blue Note on the last Sunday of September.

Dorota Miśkiewicz ranks among the foremost figures on the contemporary Polish musical scene. In recent years, she has appeared in duets with Ewa Bem, Wojciech Waglewski, Artur Andrus, and Grzegorz Turnau. Her collaborations extend to Cesaria Evora, Nigel Kennedy, Tomasz Stańko, as well as her father, the legendary jazzman Henryk Miśkiewicz. Most importantly, her personal accomplishments as a solo artist are largely her own creations. She remains on the margins of the Polish scene in a space between ambitious pop and jazz. While much of her work is too sophisticated for commercial success, her distinct voice and charismatic presence captivate an ever-bigger audience. She spearheads the fascinating project Piano.pl, which comes to life in Poznań through collaboration with a dozen plus leading Polish pianists and eminent artists on other instruments.

On this occasion, Miśkiewicz finds herself journeying, or more accurately, returning, to Brazil. Brazilian musical culture has inspired her for years. She admits that "the warm south resonates with her more than the cooler north." Her fascination culminated in her 2008 album "Caminho", among other artistic endeavours. Years later, she once again headed south, this time literally, to Rio de Janeiro. It is there, as the narrative unfolds, that she "recorded an album alongside the bossa nova luminary and one of the world's greatest guitar virtuosos Toninho Horta". Horta is also a remarkable composer, arranger, vocalist, and a cornerstone of Latin jazz in the United States.

Within the heart of Brazil, Miśkiewicz and Horta have prepared material that will soon manifest in an upcoming album release. The collection features some of the most captivating songs belonging to the canon of South American music, including Horta's original compositions. The concert ensemble features Dorota Miśkiewicz on vocals, Toninho Horta on guitar, Michael Pipoquinha on bass, and Bodek Janke on drums.
