Performance: Ay Kash / اش _ای / If Only (Under the Starry Afgan Sky Collective)
"Ay Kash" is a project composed of audio stories, graphics, and videos sent via text messages from Afghanistan. The performance is created by young Afghan women who make up the Under the Starry Afgan Sky Collective. These stories, confessions, and graphic works are brought to life in the theater space. Eleven young women use their pens, paints, and voices to share their memories and experiences since the Taliban took power in 2021 and express their hopes and dreams for a better future.
Under the Starry Afghan Sky are eleven young women, ages 15 to 23, living in Kabul and Herat, Afghanistan, under Taliban rule. The collective grew out of the Herat Online School, founded by educational activist Angela Ghayour, who herself fled Afghanistan in 1992, and is supported by Rachel Karafistan of Cosmino Productions.
