Exhibition: Sculptor Franciszek Black - defeater of the Teutonic Order, enchanter of Fear
Literary Museum of Henryk Sienkiewicz (branch of the Raczyński Library), Stary Rynek 84, Poznań
Description
Although Franciszek Black created most of his works in France and Switzerland, he felt a deep connection to Poland - the country of his birth and childhood. Similarly to Sienkiewicz, the artist took on the subject of the Battle of Grunwald in which the alliance of the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania defeated the Teutonic Order. The writer revisited the theme on the pages of his novel, while the artist co-created the Grunwald Monument. The collection showcases not only Black's depictions of important historical figures, but also his unique way of interpreting emotions.
