Exhibition: Deposit From the Wieczyn Presbytery
In 1978, in Wieczyn near Kalisz, the parish priest of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, while preparing to redecorate the main nave, accidentally discovered a hidden cache. More than 30 years after the end of World War II, he found weapons and ammunition inside.
According to historical findings, the weapons came from a British airdrop made in the autumn of 1944 in the town of Ołobok. This attests to the thriving underground movement in Greater Poland.
As Krzysztof Jankowiak, Director of the Weapons Museum, emphasizes, "the impulse for creating the exhibition came from the accidental discovery of a forgotten album created by officers of the Citizens' Militia (Milicja Obywatelska). After carefully reviewing it, museum staff concluded that the photographs, descriptions, and information contained within were ready-made material for an exhibition and shed new light on previously known exhibits."
