Exhibition: Challenging Days. Life in post-war Poznań

Śluza Gallery, ul. Dziekańska 2, Poznań
Wstęp wolny
Description

What was the daily life of Poznań's residents like immediately after the end of World War II? How did they obtain shelter, food, and clothing? Where did they work and study? Was there a space for culture or entertainment in the war-ravaged city?
We will explore the everyday life of the postwar city through the fate of one symbolic family. Although their story was created specifically for the exhibition, it is constructed from fragments of true stories. The family's story illustrates the first months of postwar life in Poznań - full of fears and shortages, but also the desire to rebuild and adapt to the new reality. The exhibition focuses on selected aspects of daily life. It presents the fate of Poznań's residents in 1945, based on witness accounts and newspaper articles, as well as source materials and scholarly studies. The carefully selected materials allow for the presentation of the numerous difficulties Poznań residents faced.
The exhibition is available in two languages: Polish and English.
