Exhibition: Body and Sign. Tattoo in an Archeological Perspective
The Archaelogical Museum (Muzeum Archeologiczne), ul. Wodna 27, Poznań
Description
The exhibition explores the history and traditions of tattooing across ancient cultures. Drawing on archaeological evidence, it highlights depictions of tattooed bodies in figurines, ceramics and wall paintings, tattooing tools and vessels containing pigment traces, as well as preserved human remains.
As most original artefacts on this subject are held in museums abroad, the display will be centred on large-scale posters. To bring the story to life, visitors will also see replicas of selected objects and ethnographic items, carefully recreated from documented examples.
