Sacrum Profanum is the latest project by Adam Bałdych and his quartet, recorded for the prestigious German label ACT MUSIC.

Sacrum Profanum is an attempt to inscribe sacred music from different periods into the context of the contemporary world, with all the wealth of its sounds, freedom of interpretation and expression. The compositions of the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen, secreted awayd for decades in the Vatican archives, Gregorio Allegri's Miserere or pieces of the modern avant-gardist Sofia Gubaidulina constitute the kind of material which so far has been performed with tremendous obeisance to form. Any attempts at intervention into the arrangement or interpretation were virtually forbidden. Bałdych, acutely aware of the  transformations of the world today, takes up the challenge by way of a new project, which also includes his new compositions, written specially for Adam Bałdych Quartet.
