The intention of Małgorzata Szymankiewicz's exhibition of paintings is to confront two different perspectives on the issue of pattern. On the one hand, in the field of design, a pattern is something accepted and desired in advance. It constitutes a proven solution that can be implemented, repeated, or optimized. In art, however, "pattern" sounds like a cliché, a mental tracing, or a duplication of a formula that should be broken or questioned. Repetition is sometimes considered a form of aesthetic disgrace, a signal that instead of taking risks and speaking "in our own voice," we are merely reproducing what is already known. Yet, repetition and pattern constitute our reality, often provoking an inner voice within us, "I feel the same way."
