Performance: Jawnuta
Performance: Jawnuta by Stanisław Moniuszko, dir. Ilaria Lanzino, Musical Director Rafał Kłoczko
A great love faced with prejudice. He, Stach, comes from a wealthy family, she, Cicha, is a gypsy. Age-old principles, intolerance and stubbornness stand in the way of their happiness. The Wielki Theatre puts on Stanisław Moniuszko's rarely staged opera Jawnuta, for the first time with music by Rafał Kłoczko. Known for her unconventional and innovative performances, young-generation Italian director Ilaria Lanzino is in charge of staging the performance. She sees Jawnuta as a complex story of the Polish Roma, the power of prejudice and the search for a way to evade it.
