JAZZAMEK #20 Wójciński / Szmańda Quartet - concert
This is an ensemble of musical individualities. The idea of the quartet originated with brothers Wójciński who, having long performed independently in various line-ups decided to form a new band, inviting the acclaimed drummer Krzysztof Szmańda. The music of the quartet is based on free improvisation, which quite naturally evolves into self-contained compositions. The character of their music derives from the many experiences and inspirations of each member, who nevertheless share openness to music which transcends any stylistic divisions. This kind of approach to the sound matter is rooted in the desire for freedom: the quintessence of improvised music.
The first album of the ensemble, Delusions, came out with Fundacja Słuchaj in April 2016. It is a record of the very first (sic!) meeting of the band in December 2014 in Warsaw.
