David La Chapelle: Songs For The World - The Exhibition

05.09 – 10.12.2018

The exhibition David La Chapelle. Songs For The World is organized to celebrate 15 years of Stary Browar - iconic shopping, leisure and art space in center of Poznań. It presents over 50 artworks of famous American photographer.

Exhibition "LaChapelle: Songs For The World" presents the newest photographs as well as classic pictures made at the beginning of his career. Highlights will include American Jesus: Hold Me, Carry Me Boldly (2009) featuring Michael Jackson, The Rape of Africa (2009) featuring Naomi Campbell, Kardashian's family Showtime at the Apocalypse (2013) presented first time in the gallery and the controversial Seismic Shift (2012).

Before the grand opening in Stary Browar, David LaChapelle sent a special letter with those words: "I believe my pictures are only completed once they are viewed by the viewer. And so, for this exhibition we are including some of the new works that are very special to me, and many images which reveal the world as I see it, and the world as I imagine it to be, as paradise."

David LaChapelle started his career as a 17-year-old. While presenting his photography in New York galleries during the late 1980s he was offered his first job by Andy Warhol to shoot for Interview Magazine, which led to international notoriety. By 1991, The New York Times predicted: LaChapelle is certain to influence the work of a new generation...in the same way that Mr. Avedon pioneered so much of what is familiar today.
