Muzeum Farmacji (Pharmacy Museum of Poznań)

Description

The Pharmacy Museum of Poznań was established in 1989 at the initiative of the Pharmacy History Section of the Polish Pharmaceutical Society. Its collection came from the Wielkopolska Regional Chamber of Pharmacy in 1992. The exhibits are displayed in a historic chamber of pharmacy dating back to the late 19th century and the early 20th century, moved from a chemist's shop in Miłosław near Września.

The collection shows a range of pharmacy ware made of wood, white and coloured glass, and vitrified clay and porcelain, dating back to the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. Some of the oldest items date back as far as the 18th century. The collection includes numerous cast-iron, brass and porcelain mortars. The museum also features laboratory equipment and pharmacy utensils, including hand-held pharmacy scales, weights, and equipment for galenical preparations. The museum holds a collection of over 1,500 book volumes, including old prints.
